About Artocrats

What is Artocrats?

Hear it in our words at Lawrence.com.

Artocrats.com is an ongoing experiment focused on bringing the social networking potential of the internet to the art community.

We love artists. They're our friends. They're our neighbors. We're surrounded by them and the overwhelming creativity they bring to our town. But we hear a universal frustration: no matter how hard they work to expose their work to the art-interested, their audience is limited.

We built Artocrats to solve this problem. We wanted to create a virtual gallery for thousands of artists to display their work to legions of viewers. But beyond exposure, we built Artocrats to be more than a technological stepping stone. We built Artocrats to revolutionize the interaction between art creator and art viewer.

Artocrats does this by placing art in an environment of interaction. The art on our site is not static. It gets ranked, favorited, discussed, and sent out into communities far beyond the reach of our site. This surge of sharing also gives artists something no gallery ever could: hard data about how their work fares in a competitive market.

How does it work?

  • Artocrats is an open call for artists to submit their work.

  • Our community of users and artists vote on everything submitted.

  • At the end of each month we make limited-edition prints of the top-rated submissions.

  • Then, we offer those prints for sale on Artocrats.

Artocrats, the idea, the community could only have blossomed in a town like Lawrence—a place brimming with artists, talented web developers, and three guys with an idea to bring them together on the web.

As Artocrats grows, we’ll add features in hopes that we can provide you a central location for tapping into any art community in America.
