How does Artocrats work?

We take open submissions from any artist. The artists submit digital images, or reproductions, of their art. Then our user community, including artists, vote on all of the submissions.

At the end of the month, based on how many users we have on our site, we purchase licensing rights to the top rated submissions. Then, we produce limited edition prints of those submissions in one-time-only runs of 100.

The prints are then divided into two groups. One group is sent out to our users who have purchased a monthly membership. Monthly memberships are sold as 3, 6, 12, and 24 month memberships. With a monthly membership, our users will be able to go to our site after winning submissions are announced and select which print they would like to receive that month.

The other group is available for purchase individually on the site in our Print Collection

What's in it for the artists?

Artists are our number one customers. Without talented, interested, and active artists on the site even we wouldn't be motivated to come back a second time. Currently we offer artists a $300 cash payment and a 3-month membership each time we print one of their submissions. As the site grows we hope to be able to keep bumping up those numbers. But more than money, we hope to be able to give the artists on our site a connection to a bigger, broader community of individuals interested in their work.

Do I have to buy anything if I create an account?

No! We want you to have full access to all of the features our site has to offer, for free. If you decide you want to buy a print [LINK] (or three), Great! If not, enjoy the site!

What does "Limited Edition" mean?

Limited Edition means that no matter how many members we have or how popular a Limited Edition print might be, members are guaranteed that we will never produce more than 100 prints. Ever.

How do I know that my print is a "Limited Edition"?

Each print we send out is hand numbered and comes with a letter of authenticity, signed by the artist.

Can I buy just one print?

Yes! Items from our Print Collection are always available for individual purchase.

How does the rating system work?

Our rating system is based on a 5 star system, similar to many other web-based ranking systems. (But since we don't use stars, we call our system the Five Dot). A rating of 1 Dot is the equivalent of saying "I hate it" and a 5 Dot rating means "I love it." When you sign up for a user account, you can start rating any art that is submitted to the site. At the end of the month we tally the ratings and the top rated works are printed and sent to our members.

What happens if I move before my membership is over?

All you need to do is update your shipping address in your Account Profile. [LINK] However, we currently do not offer international shipping. So if you are moving out of the country you will need to find someone in the US to have your prints shipped to.

Can I buy a membership for someone else?

Absolutely. Everyone loves gifts. But, right now our Gift Certificate feature is still in development.
