Etiquette Guidelines

Introduction

Artocrats is a dynamic community built for the purposes of expression and communication. In supporting this purpose we hope to create an environment of creativity, intelligent discussion, and fun. And we believe the best way to foster this is to allow our users to express themselves as freely as possible. As a result, we expect everyone to be aware of our expectations for onsite etiquette, to bring unacceptable commentary and submissions to our attention, and to generally behave like reasonable humans.

Prohibited Commentary

Prohibited commentary is typically considered to be intentionally abusive.

We will not tolerate any comments from our users that:

  • Are inherently racist or bigoted

  • Offensively targets a belief or religion

  • Offensively targets another user's gender or sexual preference

  • Directly insults a submission, another user, or group

  • Is otherwise overly aggressive or abusive

Any comment deemed in violation of these expectations will be removed from the site without notice.

If you feel that you have been the target us such commenting or other objectionable behavior, please Contact the Artocrats staff.

Discouraged Commentary

Discouraged commentary is typically considered to have the potential to escalate into an aggressive or abusive situation.

While not strictly prohibited we insist that all personal arguments, disagreements, and other volatile “personal” issues be confined to private communications outside of the Artocrats site. Comments are also not the place for public accusations and other similar issues; if you feel there is an issue with a submission regarding copyright, obscenity, or another similar situation please Contact Us.

Mature Content

The use of nudity or representations of violence in artistic expression are not prohibited, so long as such representations can reasonably be considered to be within the standard expectations of depictions of nudity or violence to be found in an art museum or typical art gallery.

Artocrats strictly prohibits, without exception, the submission of artwork that would be reasonably considered pornographic or obscene. The Artocrats staff reserves the right to remove such content immediately and without notification. The staff also reserves the sole right to decided whether questionable submissions are obscene or not obscene.

Submission of artwork, photographic or otherwise, depicting individuals under the age of 18 nude or in a 'sexually driven' manner will not be tolerated. There are no exceptions to this prohibition. Suspect submissions will be immediately removed from public view until the Artocrats staff receives acceptable legal documentation (such as a Model Release Form) from the submitting artist. Any submissions which clearly depict a minor, fictional character, or otherwise, in this manner will be removed and deleted without notice.

If you suspect an image of violating any of these provisions, please flag the image and Contact Us immediately.

Avatars

This section applies only to images which you post to the site for use as your account avatar. Avatars used to represent your account on the Artocrats site are not required to conform to the same standards for other site submissions. You may freely use material and resources, with the exception of the following:

  • Your avatar may not contain nudity

  • You may not use avatars specifically created by other users without their explicit permission

  • If your avatar contains a portion of a work made by another artist it will be removed by our staff at the request of the original artist

  • Your avatar must conform to the guidelines set out in our Terms of Use and this Etiquette FAQ
